Studio AI is an AI assistant built into Travel Patterns Explorer in Replica Studio. Describe the data you want to analyze in plain English, and Studio AI creates a Study, picking the region, season, filters, layer, and map resolution that best match your request. Studio AI then stays with you inside the Study, so you can keep the conversation going to refine filters, restyle the map, and ask questions about the data.
Studio AI is a beta feature. If you do not see it in Travel Patterns Explorer, contact your Customer Success Manager or [email protected].
Create a Study with Studio AI
Open Travel Patterns Explorer from Replica Studio and start a new Study. You can also click Generate a Travel Patterns Study with Studio AI on the Replica Studio home page.
Under Generate a Travel Patterns Study with Studio AI, describe what you want to analyze and where.
Submit your request. Studio AI creates the Study with the relevant filters applied and opens it.
Example requests:
"EV trip volumes in Los Angeles County broken down by ZIP code"
"Morning rush hour commute distances on I-15 in Salt Lake County"
"Transit ridership in Washington D.C."
Work with Studio AI inside a Study
In any Travel Patterns Study, click Studio AI in the Study toolbar to open the Studio AI panel. Type a request, or choose one from Prompt ideas above the message box, such as "Summarize this Study", "What's the mode split for these trips?", or "Filter to trips under 5 miles".
Study updated: When a request changes your Study, the panel says so. Click Undo to reverse the change, or ask Studio AI to undo it.
Stop: Click Stop (Esc) or press Esc to stop a response in progress.
Clear conversation: Start a fresh conversation from the panel header.
About Studio AI: Open the full list of what Studio AI can do from the panel header.
What Studio AI can do
Change filters
Geographies: States, counties, cities, and ZIP codes; streets and highways (with alias matching for "I-80", "Market Street", and similar names); saved selections; and excluded areas ("exclude trips through Alameda County").
Trip attributes: Mode, purpose, duration, distance, start and end time, vehicle type, tour type, and building use.
Transit: Submodes, agencies, routes, and stops.
Demographics: Age, sex, race and ethnicity, education, employment, household and individual income, language, tenure, building type, industry, and school grade.
Modify visualizations
Map styling: The active data layer; geographic resolution (block group, tract, city, county, state, H3 hex); colors, breaks (including custom thresholds), opacity, and geography borders.
Display: Top N result limits, map zoom to a named place, and the modeled day (weekday or weekend).
Charts and tables: Summary chart display and dataset column visibility.
Understand the data
Data questions: Totals, breakdowns, shares, averages, and medians; top geographies and origin-destination pairs ("which tract has the most trips?").
What-if questions: Hypothetical filters that do not change the Study ("how many trips would there be if I only looked at bike trips?").
Study overviews: A recap of active filters and live trip totals.
Manage your Study
Rename, duplicate, and share the Study.
Download layer data (CSV, GeoJSON, Shapefile) or save the map as an image.

Tips for best results
When place names are ambiguous (Manhattan, Madison, Cleveland, and so on), include the state or region. When asking about a specific street, mention the city it is in.
Specify a season and day of week if you need one. Otherwise Studio AI uses the latest available season and Thursday.
Be specific about which trips matter: origins, destinations, and trips that pass through a place are all different filters.
Build complex Studies one step at a time. Start with the core request, then refine it with follow-up requests so you can see what each change does.
If several requests in a row do not change your Study, Studio AI shows a Having trouble? card with example requests that work well, a link to the full list of capabilities, and a Chat with support option.
Not yet supported
Custom or uploaded geographies
Neighborhood-level filters ("downtown Topeka", "Upper West Side", "the Mission")
Multi-region or cross-season comparisons
Check the results
Studio AI can make mistakes. Before you use a result, verify the region, season, and filters it applied, and check important figures in the Study itself.
